What is Healthy Skin?

Skin is the largest organ in our body and our body’s first line of defense. Good and healthy skin can also improve our self-confidence. So how can we identify healthy skin? Here are some of the general signs to look out for:

  1. Well-hydrated skin

Water is vital for the skin to keep up the moisture levels and prevent dryness. It is recommended to drink at least 2 litres of water a day to keep our skin hydrated and glowing.

One way to know if your skin is well hydrated is to pinch a small portion of skin on the back of your hand. If you are well-hydrated, the skin should bounce back instantly.

  1. Consistent texture

Healthy skin looks and feels smooth. It has pores and tiny peaks around the hair follicles which is perfectly natural. Some causes of uneven skin texture include buildup of dry dead skin cells, dry ski, enlarged pores and acne scars.

  1. Consistent skin colour and tone

A consistent skin colour and tone is a sign of healthy skin. Small variations are normal. However, unusual discolouration such as dark spots, redness or blotchiness might require attention from a dermatologist.

  1. Normal sensations

Healthy skin feels normal and comfortable. You will not feel any irregular sensations such as soreness, burning or itchiness.
